Balatongyörök Beautiful lookout
Anyone visiting Balatongyörök should definitely see the panorama from the Szépkilató. Unlike the built lookouts, you don't even have to climb to admire the scenic beauty of Lake Balaton, the witness hills of the Tapolca basin and the Szigligeti bay.
The Szépkilató was named after the writer Károly Eötvös in 1855, who was so inspired by the beautiful view from the hill that he mentioned the beauty of the Balatongyörök landscape in his work Journey around Lake Balaton.
The view is truly stunning: to the left are the witness hills of the Tapolca basin: Badacsony, Szent György Hill, Csobánc, Gulács, Tóti Hill, Haláp, Somló Hill, Kis-Somló and Ság Hill. Mountains with traces of former volcanic activity surround the eastern part of the bay. This view is only enhanced by the image of the Szigligeti Castle. To the left, in the foreground of the witness hills, the rebuilt castle walls rise up, evoking a sense of history.
The rest area on the main road 71 offers a large car park, wooden benches with a landscape design and shady pine trees. On the other side of the lookout, catering facilities and public toilets are available for weary travellers. There are hiking trails from this point, and the lookout can also be reached by bicycle from the cycle path.
