Szigliget Castle

One of the most popular castles in Hungary, Szigligeti Castle, which is now 750 years old, is located on the northern shore of Lake Balaton. Its bastions offer a breathtaking view of Lake Balaton. The castle is one of the few castles that never had Ottoman insignia on its towers during the Ottoman times. Its valiant soldiers preserved its independence for 150 years.
After visiting the castle, it's worth a stroll through the charming little village of tiny white thatched houses, or even the Kamon Stone trail that winds through the curiously named hills of the island of Sziget. The area is truly beautiful and close to nature, with vineyards running along the side of the castle and orchards in bloom in spring.
